If Sun and 9th house lord are well-placed it indicates that self-righteousness, willpower, and courage are directed to pious and ethical deeds. It also indicates willpower and courage to fight and protect truth, ethics, and morals.

Alternatively, if Sun is afflicted (by aspect or conjunction with the unfavorable or unfriendly planet) and/or undignified in the 9th house, it indicates over-inflated ego and self-righteous behavior despite being wrong. A self-righteous person protects their viewpoints even when these do not match with universal truth or Dharma.

Powerfully Righteous & Selfless

If Sun is well-placed in the 9th house, it indicates being righteous, ethical, and motivated to perform good deeds

After all, Sun is the planet of enthusiasm, passion, and vitality the placement of which in the 9th house increases passion to attain higher wisdom, religious blessings, and lead a righteous life.

One major signification of the Sun is also dignity and righteousness which in the given house creates a powerfully righteous person.

By powerfully righteous it is meant that they stand for truth valorously by not giving up when they are opposed with injustice or unrighteous behavior.

Individuals with dignified Sun in the 9th house are willing to bring sacrifices and spend the vitality of their soul for the sake of truth and justice.

It also means that these natives prosper along with others whom they enlighten or inspire. They are willing to give up their fortunes if they see others suffer. They can enjoy prosperity and abundance only when truth dominates at least their immediate environment.

Alternatively, if the Sun is undignified and damaged in the 9th house, it indicates being unfair and insincere which causes delays and hindrances in the spiritual path.

This combination also supports traveling for the purpose of obtaining spiritual or higher wisdom as well as to visit religious destinations.

Father

A dignified Sun in the 9th house shows that the father or father figures of natives with this combination are truthful, honest, religious, and righteous.

If the Sun is strong and well-placed in the 9th house, it promotes a good relationship with the father.

The placement of the undignified Sun in the 9th house indicates a father who is arrogant and selfish with over-inflated confidence. It also indicates Father being self-righteous and overwhelming regarding his belief system. He feels his words are always right.

If Sun is debilitated without any influence from a favorable planet, it indicates separation from or very bad relations with the father. In addition to that, it indicates a bad reputation to the father.

Possible Powerful Raja Yoga

If Sun is in own sign Leo in the 9th house, it becomes the 9th house lord the placement of which in the considered house produces a strong and powerful Raja Yoga – Trine or Trikona house lord in Trikona is one of the Raja Yogas which is formed by the association of Kendra and Trikona houses.

Classical Interpretation

Bhrigu Sutras

In Bhrigu Sutram, it is mentioned that individuals with this combination are extremely faithful and devoted to God. They will be religious from the soul.

However, with the influence of a natural malefic and dominant planet Sun in the 9th house of the father, there will be some opposition or difference of views with one’s father. There are also dominance issues between the natives and their fathers.

On the other hand, if Sun is in good dignity in this house, that is, in its own or exaltation sign, the auspicious results will predominate and negate the malefic effects.

As a result of the strong Sun in this house, the natives with this combination will be fortunate regarding romance. That is, they will enjoy good feelings shared with their partner.

In addition to that, the native will also be blessed with good children who will bring happiness and brightness to the life of the native.

As the 9th house is the house of luck, prosperity, and abundance, a strong Sun in this house provides ample wealth to people with this combination. They are naturally lucky and fortunate.

The father of the native despite being dominant is also very religious, righteous, humble, and free from major issues in life.

Not only their father, but the natives themselves are very righteous, moral, ethical, humble, and religious. They will show a great amount of respect to a higher power, God. They will be extremely devoted to serving the almighty, as Sun itself is a Sattvic planet as per sidereal Vedic astrology.

However, if Sun is in bad dignity, afflicted by inimical planets, or fallen in this house, it promotes some negative results.

As a result, the relationship with the father suffers tremendously. the native finds it almost impossible to find agreements with their father which takes all the fatherly happiness away.

It is also said to affect the longevity of the father of the native adversely due to loss of vitality.

On the other hand, if Sun is fallen but saved by an aspect from or through association with a functional benefic planet, it saves the father from bad results. It also relieves the debilitation of the Sun and saves from other negative results to some extent.

Brihat Jataka

In this classical source, the results from a positive case scenario of a strong Sun with good dignity are emphasized.

Namely, it mentions that such individuals with this combination will be fortunate regarding progeny, finances, and happiness.

Saravali

In this classical source, the same positive results are mentioned like in Bhrigu Sutras.

Phaladeepika

In this classical source, it is mentioned that the effect of a natural malefic planet Sun on the 9th house affects the sense of contentment of the father adversely. As a result, the father is constantly unsatisfied.

These are default results without any positive impact on Sun from other planets.

Chamatkara Chintamani

In Chamatkara Chintamani, it is stated that such individuals are constantly stressed and immoral in behavior.

It is also mentioned that they will be involved in religious activities but not with pure intentions.

Additionally, such individuals will be troubled by their siblings because Sun casts a direct aspect upon the 3rd house of younger siblings.

As the 9th house elongs to the triangle of righteousness, the positioning of the Sun gives a clue whether the native is ethically aligned or not.

In this scripture, the results of an average Sun with bad dignity are mentioned. Thus, the weakness of the Sun causes being bereft of morality, righteousness, faith, and higher wisdom which is the reason for the results mentioned in this classical source.

  • I have Pisces ascendant in D9/navamsa chart.6th lord sun is in 9th house Scorpio.I read many general interpretations of this as strong enemies in the form of father, health, disputes and enemies stopping a person from getting higher education.I have 1st and 10th lord Jupiter,2nd and 9th lord Mars and 5th lord moon in 3rd house in Taurus.so all the yogakarakas are in mutual aspect with Malefic sun in 9th house.so does it mean in spite of the obstacles,I can obtain my higher education?thanks in advance.

    • Hello Eesha

When considering the details you mentioned here you are able to attain wisdom and fortune through hard work and ultimate self-discipline. The more obstacles you have, the more chances there are to grow.

Generally speaking, this combination brings better results if you discipline yourself to follow a moral and righteous life path.

You are not blessed by having everything working out easily, but by righteously fighting your way to your goals.

      Best wishes
